19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's first title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to create a third set.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a close final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
